"One should either be a work of art, or wear a work of art."

About the Artist
  • Tired of one size fits all jewelry?
  • Do you like to create your own version of jewelry/fashion style?
  • Fed up with seeing someone else wearing the same jewelry?

Quay Ann Designs is all about creating wearable art jewelry for your everyday life you can't find anywhere else.  My shop features ever-changing collections for the woman who wants to embrace her uniqueness and originality.

I am Quay, and I started Quay Ann Designs in 2009 to create wearable art jewelry for those of you who appreciate the distinctiveness of quality handmade, one-of-a-kind jewelry. Jewelry is a reflection of all the things that make you unique. From your genetic makeup and personality to your personal style. It is an extension of who you are and how you feel.

Working with metals is my passion.   I love creating intricate wire woven jewelry, as well as, metalsmithed jewelry that is fascinating, eye-catching, and functional with you in mind. I especially enjoy working with lapidary, glass, and clay artists who turn stone slabs, glass rods, and clay from the earth into cabochons and beads that I carefully hand select for their unique shapes and beautiful color combinations.  I weave and smith the cabochons and beads with copper and solid Sterling silver into enchanting sculptured pieces of art to be worn and treasured by you.

Besides working with these artists, I take great pride in collecting treasures from nature in my own back yard. One of my favorite places to hunt is along the shoreline of beautiful Lake Superior, where I am so blessed to live. I find various kinds of semi-precious rocks (agates, thompsonite, quartz, and many others), along with beach glass, hunks of metal, and driftwood that have been naturally tumbled by this magnificent fresh water lake.

This may sound a bit woo woo, however, I find it amazing that each stone, glass, and clay piece speaks to me. There is something in each one that draws me in and says, "take me home".  I find inspiration from the materials themselves, nature, architecture, colors, textures, and other forms.

Speaking of inspiration, it would be an honor to create a customized piece of wearable art jewelry just for you.  Pick from my vast collection of cabochons and beads or have your own piece of stone, coin, or other memento you would like turned into wearable art jewelry.  Click here and we can start discussing how we can collaborate to enhance what makes you unique or click here to shop all ready made wearable art jewelry.  I am appreciative of the opportunity to help you build your vision of originality and convey your creative flair to the world.

Artist Bio

Art has been a part of my life as long as I can remember and I have always enjoyed making various forms of art. My mother, who is an artist herself, has been a huge influence and always encouraged me to experience and experiment with innumerable forms of art. One of my first memories was receiving my very first sewing machine. I was five years old, maybe younger. I had the idea that I was going to monogram my father’s handkerchiefs. But instead of just adding monograms, I ended up sewing all his handkerchiefs closed. I look back and giggle at the memory.

Fast forward 30 years, I began my journey in designing and creating jewelry with only myself and my personal style in mind.  With a minimal knowledge of jewelry making from my days in Campfire Girls and friendship bracelets made out of embroidery floss; I researched and studied on how to create basic jewelry pieces.  Fast forward again a couple years, I began my journey in creating imperfect beautiful works of wearable art for your everyday life.

As a self-proclaimed student for life and lover of the arts, I know I will continue to dabble in many art mediums as they pique my interest. However, I am fascinated by the way metal and wire can ebb and flow.  I enjoy enhancing stunning elements with metal in various forms that is beautiful, functional and can be worn everyday.  I would be missing a part of me if I did not share the beauty of my wearable art with you and the world.  I always have been and always will be an artist.

My gratitude allows me the opportunity to Pay It Forward by supporting local communities through donations of wearable art jewelry for multiple causes and events.  Click here to contact me about a donation for your charity or special event.
